Practical planner
What to know before you go
Tea-country days are best built around one estate or factory, one scenic stop and enough time to enjoy the landscape. Too many waterfalls quickly turns the day into repeated roadside parking.
Recommended pace
One night works as a route stop; two nights is more comfortable for Horton Plains, tea visits or family sightseeing.
Best time and conditions
The climate is cooler than the coast and rain can occur throughout the year. Carry a warm layer and rain protection, especially for early mornings and evenings.
Keep the arrival day light
Flight delays, luggage collection and road conditions can change the schedule. Avoid placing an important timed activity immediately after landing.
Check local conditions
Weather can differ greatly between Sri Lanka’s coast, hills and inland areas. Recheck the forecast and activity conditions close to your travel date.
Pack for the place
Carry sun protection, a light rain layer and suitable clothing for temples, walks or cooler evenings depending on the destination.
Reserve limited experiences early
Train seats, safari jeeps, boat trips and popular entry times may have limited availability during busy travel periods.
