The Kandy–Ella–Badulla line is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous train experiences, but storm-related recovery work has affected through services. Some sections have resumed at different times, while public reports have also noted curtailments around Rambukkana during repair periods.
Safe planning advice: before promising guests a Kandy–Ella, Ella–Badulla or Colombo–Badulla train, check the official schedule on the travel date and keep a backup car transfer plan.

Trains are useful and scenic, but schedules can change. Always check the official Sri Lanka Railways schedule and seat reservation portal before planning. The upcountry/Badulla line has had storm-recovery disruption, so do not promise Kandy–Ella or Colombo–Badulla train travel without checking current service.
No. PickMe and Uber are good for city rides and some one-way transfers, but they are not ideal for multi-day tours, sightseeing stops, luggage-heavy itineraries, or rural hotel pickups. A chauffeur-driven car is better for flexible touring.
No. Sri Lanka expressways do not allow three-wheelers, motorcycles, tractors, bicycles or pedestrians. Use normal A/B/C roads for tuk-tuks and bikes.
