Practical planner
What to know before you go
A useful itinerary balances sightseeing with realistic travel time. Avoid judging a Sri Lankan route only by distance because road conditions and terrain can change the pace.
Recommended pace
One night is possible for a single safari; two nights gives flexibility and avoids combining safari fatigue with a very long transfer.
Best time and conditions
Wildlife can be seen year-round, but sightings are never guaranteed. Park access, closures and conditions should be checked close to the visit.
Keep the arrival day light
Flight delays, luggage collection and road conditions can change the schedule. Avoid placing an important timed activity immediately after landing.
Check local conditions
Weather can differ greatly between Sri Lanka’s coast, hills and inland areas. Recheck the forecast and activity conditions close to your travel date.
Pack for the place
Carry sun protection, a light rain layer and suitable clothing for temples, walks or cooler evenings depending on the destination.
Reserve limited experiences early
Train seats, safari jeeps, boat trips and popular entry times may have limited availability during busy travel periods.
