Core route — two caves loop
Pickup from CMB/Colombo → Warana Raja Maha Vihara (middle terrace cave temple & stupa; views) → Pilikuththuwa (cave shrines cluster; pond, wooden footbridge; quick tea stop) → drop-off.
Add a viewpoint — Maligatenna
After Pilikuththuwa, continue to Maligatenna Rajamaha Viharaya (short uphill to rock-top stupa; great panorama). Adds ~60–90 min.
Gentle pace — fewer steps
Focus on Warana lower terrace and Pilikuththuwa’s easy paths; more time for photos and a calm snack break.

How far are the temples from CMB?
Warana/Thihariya area is ~25–35 km from CMB (about 30–60 min off-peak). Pilikuththuwa is a further 6–12 km inland.
Is the tour private or shared?
Always private — just you and your driver; we adjust pace and stops to you.
How many steps at Warana?
Several flights between terraces; we can stop at scenic middle level if you prefer fewer steps.
Footwear & dress?
Shoes off inside shrines. Shoulders and knees covered. Light clothes, hat and sunscreen recommended.
Rain plan?
We can swap the order, wait out showers under rock shelters, or adjust to nearby lower-step spots.
Is there an entrance ticket?
Generally no fixed ticket — these are living monasteries. Offer a small donation if you take photos or receive help.
